How Do You Reference A Conversation In APA Format?
American Psychological Association (APA) format is most commonly used to cite sources in work done within the social sciences. APA style does not require you to cite a conversation or other personal communication in your reference list or bibliography. Rather, you must provide an in-text citation that details the source of your information. Conversations are included in the personal communications category for citing sources in APA style. Personal communications include situations as informal as conversations you had with an authority or other source in person, on the phone or via email. They also include slightly more formal communication, such as an interview conducted in person, on the phone or via email. Include the following information when referencing a conversation as an in-text citation: the person’s name you communicated with, the words “personal communication” and the date of the communication.
