If your child and his or her custodial parent received public assistance when you did not pay child support, you may be eligible for the Compromise of Arrears Program in California. You must owe a minimum of $501 and not have been convicted of failure to pay child support within six months of applying for the program. Complete the Application for Child Support Compromise of Arrears. An application is listed below under Resources, or you can obtain one at your local child support agency office. The application asks for your contact information, assets, debts you owe, current employment, and your child support case number. The application also asks for you to make an offer on your arrears, which amounts to how much you can afford to pay in a lump sum. Be sure to sign and date your application. Make copies of your tax returns for the last year, pay
