How Do You Recycle Plastic Milk Jugs Into Emergency Water Storage Containers?
I really love a big glass of cold water. But what if there was a disaster and there was no fresh water available? I don’t ever want to come to the point where there is no water available for my family so I store emergency water in recycled plastic milk jugs. Rinse and disinfect your milk jug. This first step is very important so don’t skip it. Rinse out any old milk then spray the inside of the jug, the opening and the cap with bleach water and allow to dry. The bleach water will kill any bacteria that may be left over from the milk. Fill the jug about half full with clear water. Add one tsp. of bleach and place the cap back on. Shake vigorously for about 30 seconds. Dump the bleach water and do a final rinse with clear water. Fill the jug with fresh water. Treat the water for storage by adding 1/4 tsp. liquid bleach (do not use scented bleach) per gallon. Mark the date on the container with a permanent marker. Store the water in a dry place that is cool and away from direct sunlight o
