How Do You Recover Data From A Damaged Hard Drive?
With so much of your life stored on your computer, a damaged hard drive is one the most dreaded events. All is not lost, however. With the right tools, you may be able to recover the data from your damaged hard drive. Try plugging your hard drive into another computer to recover the data. It may have been the motherboard, or another computer component, that caused the problem instead of the hard drive. If the hard drive works fine in another computer, it is not damaged. Use a LiveCD program, such as Ubuntu or Puppy Linux to access your files. You will need access to a working computer with internet. Download the file and burn it onto a disc. Put the disc into your computer and restart it. During the startup sequence, enter the setup mode by pressing the appropriate key. This will be F12 or ESC for most computers. Start the LiveCD program and plug a working external hard drive into your computer. Use the LiveCD program to copy the data from the damaged hard drive to the external drive.
