If you play your cards right-or play your guitar right-you can get a tone on your guitar that sounds like it was mic-ed using the best mics available in a perfect wood-paneled room. Sometimes, though, it can sound like sludge. Plug the guitar into your PC’s sound card. You’ll need a cable with a standard guitar cable input on one end and a mini-input (like a headphone input) on the other. You could also get an adaptor for a mic cable. A warning here: this is not the best way to get a professional-quality sound. A standard soundcard probably isn’t going to cut and you’re going to want to get a pro-quality soundcard.
