Cast iron cookware is a joy to use. It may be a family heirloom passed down from generation to generation, but if it was not cared for or left in your grandmothers basement for years the cookware might look more like something you will want to throw away. Do not do this. Cast iron can be cleaned the cookware and reseasoned. This is a time consuming project, but the results are well worth the weight to have a solid piece of cast iron cookware you can pass down to the next generation of your family. Put on rubber gloves. In a well-ventilated area, spray oven cleaner on the front and the back of the cast iron pan. Place the pan in a garbage bag and knot. Leave in bag for twenty-four to forty-eight hours. Wearing gloves remove cast iron skillet from bag and wash in hot, soapy water to remove all traces of the oven cleaner. Remove rust from pan by immersing pan in sink of one quart of white vinegar to two gallons hot water. Let sit for one hour then use soap free steel wool to rub off any r
