How Do You Quilt With Plaid Fabric?
Quilters like to use all sorts of fabric prints when working on new projects. Working with plaids can be a little tricky. You will need special techniques when using a plaid fabric in your quilt, just like you would when you are sewing with plaid for any other type of project. Many quilting rules apply to plaids and other fabrics alike, but there are some guidelines to follow when making a quilt strictly from different plaid fabrics. Choose smaller prints of plaid for use in quilts. Do not use prints that are so large that the pattern of the print disappears when cutting up the fabric into smaller pieces. Pick a variety of plaid patterns for use in your quilt. Choose from the same patterns but different colors or choose from different patterns with coordinating colors. Cut your plaid fabrics into 300 squares that are 6-by-6 inches. Put these all in a bag and shake the bag. Pull one square at a time out of the bag. Do not peek to make your quilt top random plaids.
