How Do You Put Up Drywall In A Basement With Drain Tiles?
In new construction, the contractor installs drain tile on the outside of the home’s basement, on top of the concrete footers, before filling around the foundation with soil. Unfortunately, older homes may not have this type of drain tile and if water seepage is a problem, a contractor must install drain tile inside the basement, by removing some of the concrete floor. If there are no further moisture problems, install drywall in the basement and use the space as additional living area. Examine the basement floor. If the contractor buried the drain tile and poured new concrete on top, you can build a traditional wall and hang the drywall. However, if the drain tile is visible, as a perforated strip, running around the perimeter of your basement, you must build your wall inside the tile. Frame a basement wall with dimensional lumber and studs to the desired length. But, instead of attaching the framed wall to the concrete basement wall, position it at least 1 inch inside the drain tile
