Choose a coarse sea sponge at any arts and crafts store. Choose slightly coarse for a slight textured look, or more coarse to increase the texture. Purchase more than one of the same type of sponge. Fill a mud pan with sheetrock mud using a mud knife. Use a 5 gallon pail of mud. Put the lid back on the pail after getting mud out of it each time to prevent it from drying. Grasp the top side of the sponge in your hand. Dip the textured side of the course sea sponge into the mud that is in the pan.
