How do you put reference numbers and footnotes on in word?

Word will automatically maintain the numbering sequence no matter what you do to the footnotes. It will also do its darnedest to keep the footnotes on the page (and out of the footer, too), as well as give them a format different from the normal text. To put in a Word footnote: In Word versions prior to Word 2007: 1. Position the cursor where you want the footnote or endnote reference to go. 2. Click on the Insert->Reference->Footnote menu item. 3. Click Insert. 4. Type the note text. The footnotes are best viewed in Print Layout view, at least until you get used to how they work. In Word 2007: 1. Position the cursor where you want the footnote or endnote reference to go. 2. Click the References tab on the Ribbon. 3. Click the arrow in the lower right corner of the Footnotes group. 4. Continue as in Step 3, above. Hope that helps.
