How Do You Put Canadian Postal Codes In Excel Cells?

0

Unlike ZIP codes in the United States, Canadian ZIP codes are alphanumeric, comprised of six characters. For example, the ZIP code for Donora Drive in Toronto, Ontario is M4B 1B3. Excel can format cells in several ways, including date format, money (dollars or pounds), decimal and numerous other ways. If the cell is expecting an input for something other than an alphanumeric entry (for example, dollars), and you try to input a Canadian ZIP code, Excel will try to convert the ZIP code. The solution is to format the cell to allow alphanumeric entries. Right click on the cell you want to format. Click on “format cells.” A dialog box will appear. Choose “general” from the list of categories, then press “OK” (Excel 2003 users will have to click on the “Numbers” tab before seeing the categories list). You can now input Canadian ZIP codes into the cells.
