Family history picture books, unless the family is of general historic importance like the Roosevelts or Kennedys, are difficult to publish commercially. In most cases, you’ll have to publish your family history yourself. That means you will have to be your own writer, editor, typesetter, book designer, publisher and marketer. If your book is interesting enough to capture a market outside your direct family, you may still be able to sell it to a commercial publisher later. Plan your family history picture book. You almost certainly have a theme in mind for your family history: military, perhaps, or weddings, or one particular lineage in your family. If you don’t have one, think about your family history and try to come up with one. Once you have your theme together, pull together all the pictures that are appropriate.
