How Do You Prune Hybrid Tea Roses?
Roses need seasonal and light weekly pruning to stimulate growth and give them exposure to light and air. Rose pruning will help make your plants grow better. Hybrid tea roses are extremely popular due to their huge flowers, lovely scent, strong stems and easy care. They are a cross between an old fashioned tea rose and the newer hybrids, which make them strong, disease-resistant and vigorous. Pruning your hybrid teas is easy, and some strains even come in thornless varieties. Prune in early spring. Try to get it done before new growth starts. Cut out anything dead, diseased or damaged . This is known commonly as the three D’s. Cut any old canes that are spindly or thin. They most likely not produce buds and will draw strength from the stronger canes. Cut off any branches that crisscross or rub. Remove any suckers and rootstock coming from the ground and put this debris in the trash, not your compost heap.
