How Do You Prune An Ornamental Bamboo Tree?
Ornamental bamboo, a wide variety of hardy grasses that grow to tree height, serves many purposes both inside and outside of the home–decorative landscaping, privacy barriers, soil and land conservation/air purification and carbon dioxide reduction tools and as wildlife habitats. Pruning an ornamental bamboo tree or removing unwanted other bamboo growth requires only the proper cutting tools and patience. Plant a 2-foot underground/1-foot above ground barrier or concrete trench, if you have not already done so, around your bamboo so that its rhizomes (horizontal stems) do not spread into other landscaping areas causing the unintentional growth of new bamboo groves. Keep in mind that because of the proliferation of the plant, the best outdoor growth sites consist of walled-in areas or large open fields. Skip this step if you own only indoor potted bamboo.
