How Do You Protect The Wood Of Raised Beds?
Raised garden beds are great for gardeners with space or mobility restrictions, and they are a good solution for those who garden in areas with poor soil, because they can be filled with high-quality topsoil and compost. However, the wood used to make your raised garden beds needs to be protected from the elements. There are several things you can do before you build your beds and throughout their lifetime to protect the wood you use. Melt 1 oz. paraffin wax over a stove. Pour the melted wax into a 2-gallon bucket and add 1 gallon of turpentine and 2 cups of linseed oil. Stir the mixture with a stirring stick. Use a paintbrush to coat the front, sides, back and all exposed areas of the wood of your raised beds. Apply a thick coating of the mixture to each board to protect it from weather damage.
