How Do You Protect Specimens On Microscope Slides?
Using microscopes for scientific experiments allows you to get a cellular look at many things. The specimens used on microscope slides need to be protected from contamination by human hands, liquids, and other foreign objects that can ruin a sample. Fortunately, there are simple things that can be done to protect your specimens from being ruined. Place your specimens onto the microscope slides. Make sure the specimen layers are thin and flat. Put the microscope slide cover onto the specimen and secure it if the specimen and slide are dry. The slipcover should be securely attached to the slide. Hold the slide cover at a 45 degree angle as you place it onto the slide, if you are doing a wet mount. Place the slipcover on slowly in order to prevent the formation of air bubbles between the cover and the slide. Store slides in a container that holds them vertically and provides space between each slide to prevent the specimens from being smashed or damaged.
