How Do You Protect Kids From Secondhand Smoke?
Each year we hear more about the effects secondhand smoke can have on a person. As scientists conduct more and more research, it is evident that the group most vulnerable to harmful effects of secondhand smoke is our children. Bronchitis, pneumonia, ear infections and asthma can be the result of exposure to secondhand smoke. It is our responsibility to protect our children from these effects and it’s becoming increasingly easier to do as our society heads towards smoke-free environments. Keep your children out of areas where heavy smoke is present. This includes any indoor smoking areas, such as smoking sections in restaurants. You may be lucky enough to live in a state that has banned smoking in restaurants altogether, as this makes your job easier. Smoking in outdoor areas helps, but it’s still important to keep children away from those areas as well.
