Dogs can be registered with the American Kennel Club, the United Kennel Club, various breed clubs and foreign kennel clubs. Each organization has its own process for registration of a dog. All registration processes start with documentation from the owner of the dam, or mother of the dog, by documenting her registration and the registration of the sire of the litter. File the litter registration papers that came with the puppy with the AKC or UKC, depending on the registration of the parents of the dog. The breeder should have registered the litter at the time of birth and would have a Dog Registration Application for each puppy in the litter. The new owner fills out the form including the dogs registered name, color and sex. The form should be signed by the owner of both the dam and sire of the litter.
