How do you properly clean a belly button piercing?
DONT use anything like alcohol, bactine, any disinfectant etc as these are far too harsh!! All any piercing needs is a quarter of a teaspoon of SEA salt in a cup of boiling water. Whilst still hot, but not so hot that it burns you, soak a ball of cotton wool in the water and then put over the piercing and soak it (I used to get those little cups that you store contact lenses in and then cup it over my piercing to soak it that way) for about 5 – 10 mins twice a day and then clean the crust off. White crusting is a good sign that it is healing, dont worry about it. The only time to see your piercer is if you start to get oozing, smelly dark yellow pus coming out as that is the start of an infection.
Use sea salt (iodine free) and hot water (as hot as you can stand it). Take a small cup (a shot glass works great) and mix a bit of sea salt and hot water in it. The mixture should be about 1/4 – 1/2 tsp to a cup of hot water. So take the small cup and bend over and press the cup over your navel and create a suction cup affect. Then carefully sit or lie down for ten to 15 minutes, twice a day. Don’t rotate the jewelery, this will tear the healing tissue and prolong healing time. And make sure your hands are clean before you do any of this.
