Lucky Bamboo is actually not a bamboo. It is a member of the lily family that is native to the dark tropical rain forests of SE Asia and Africa. It is typically grown in jars of water although it can be planted in soil or rocks if kept wet. Lucky bamboo needs to be kept in 1″ of water that is regularly changed (once a week) When it starts growing branches, you can take cuttings to make more plants. When the side branches are at least5″ long, they can be cut off of the plant near the thick mother stem. Gently peel the brown skin covering from the branch and place the stem in water so at bottom 1″ of it is always in the water. This can be the same vase or jar the mother plant is in. Leave the mother plant in the water and it will soon grow new branches. Roots should start forming on the cuttings within 1-2 weeks although it sometimes takes longer. Make sure they are always in 1″ or more water and that the water is changed at least once a week. Keep out of direct sunlight or the leaves wi
