Mock orange has several varieties, all with white flowers that range from single to fully double and up to 2 inches across. Despite the differences in appearance, all mock oranges are propagated by taking stem cuttings. Fill a flower pot or bed with potting soil and water thoroughly so that the soil is damp. Leave enough room for the desired number of cuttings so that all leaves will catch sunlight. Take hardwood cuttings in late fall, winter or very early in the spring while the plant is dormant. Take softwood cuttings in late spring when new growth is just beginning to harden and snaps easily. Cut a 4- to 6-inch shoot early in the morning when the plant is turgid.
