How Do You Produce Hydrogen With Electrolysis?
Hydrogen production and dissemination are key components to renewable-energy concepts. The hydrogen fuel cell could replace hydrocarbon-burning vehicle engines, but the infrastructure of manufacturing, storage, transportation and delivery to the consumer must be in place to make it viable. The Department of Energy oversees much of the research related to all stages of the hydrogen infrastructure problem. Demonstrating hydrogen production through electrolysis is a good project to illustrate some of the difficulties involved in this process. Cut two lengths of wire and strip approximately 1/4 to 1/2 inch of insulation from each end. The length of wire will vary depending on the size of your battery and the size of the tub. One to 1 1/2 feet should work in most setups. Twenty-gauge wire is usually a good size, but you can also use slightly larger sizes.
