How Do You Prime A Beckett Oil Burner?

0

If you own a Beckett oil burner that has recently run low on oil or run out of it, you may need to prime the lines. Running a unit that is low on fuel will cause the burner pump to draw excessive air into the lines, which can cause ignition problems. Locate the bleed screw on the pump; it should be near the front depending on the model. Check your Beckett owner’s manual for a diagram or check the Resource section for an online PDF version. Loosen the bleed screw with a wrench or pliers. Adjust the screw by hand so it is not quite tight. Push the reset button on the motor to start it and create suction in the line. Wait a few seconds after the motor starts, then loosen the screw 1/2 turn. Air will gush out followed by a steady stream of oil–have rags ready to soak it up. Continue bleeding the system until there are no more bubbles in the oil. Once the line is primed, immediately tighten the bleed screw. Wipe off excess oil that may have escaped the unit. Sometimes the burner will shut
