How Do You Prevent Pierre Robin Syndrome?
Pierre Robin Syndrome is something that occurs at birth. It is a defect where the infant may have a soft cleft palette, and a small lower jaw with a tongue that can fall back in its mouth. You can help your child with Pierre Robin Syndrome, but there is no known prevention for it at this time. Since the cause is unknown, and it occurs at birth, not as a disease you can catch later in life, prevention may be based on genetics. But there are steps you can take to help protect an infant with this syndrome. Do not lay infants with this syndrome on their back as it may cause their tongue to fall back in their throat. Be careful when feeding your child to help them keep from choking. Make sure to consult your doctor for more tips, and for help with this syndrome. A tube may need to be put in to keep the airway clear. Your doctor can help you tremendously, and you should always follow their advice.
