Teak oil naturally prevents wood from rotting and deteriorating in wet environments, such as the open sea or outside, exposed to the elements. These very same oils, however, are also highly conducive to mold and mildew growth. Mildew and mold are not particularly difficult to remove from teak, but to save yourself some work, you may wish to take some steps to prevent its growth in the first place. Step 1 Clean the teak according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Most teak manufacturers recommend a certain brand of commercial cleaner. These range from one-part cleaners that consist of a mild chemical cleanser and require the use of a bristle brush to two-part cleaners that use two different bottles and are much harsher.
