How Do You Prevent Galling On Stainless Steel Bolts?
Galling occurs when two stainless steel fasteners weld together due to high heat and friction. Once galling occurs, the bolt and nut have to be cut apart. Stainless steel fasteners can be used in a number of applications including weatherproof applications, food services and machining. Each application may require only one method to reduce or eliminate galling, while others may require several preventative methods. Prior to assembling, place lubricant onto the nut and bolt. Use a lubricant made specifically for reducing or eliminating galling between stainless steel fasteners, such as Fastorq Anti-Gall/Anti-Seize lubricant, or other products containing graphite, talc and mica. Insert the stainless steel bolt where needed and attach a nut. Tightening the bolt by hand will drastically reduce friction, which will eradicate the chance of galling completely. Since this technique will require a lot of assembly time, it is best to use it only when working on small projects. Set a driving tool
