The general consensus from the American Academy of Pediatricians (AAP) along with most allergists is to delay the introduction of highly allergenic foods to young children who are at risk for developing food allergies. However, various recent studies suggest that the early introduction of allergenic foods may be a better strategy to prevent the development of food allergies. The jury is probably still out as to which method is the best way to prevent food allergies in young children.
