How Do You Prevent A Toddler From Biting?
What is a mom to do if her toddler is biting their playmates? What can a teacher do to help prevent biting in their classroom? As a mother, teacher and educator, I have learned a few things. The following tips and suggestions can be helpful, if you have an open mind and willing to be consistent in your strategies. Above all, one must realize, before the biting will stop, the adults in charge must take the time to understand “why they bite! ” Reason: Their teeth may hurt. Solution: Offer teething rings or some food, like a frozen bagel that they can chew on. Reason: They may want attention. Solution: Give toddlers lots of attention throughout the day. Be in tune and watch for cues that the child needs that extra hug or some cuddle time. Reason: They may be trying to interact with another child for companionship or play.
