How Do You Preserve Minnows With Salt?
Anglers often have a challenge when they must keep their minnows fresh for use as bait while fishing. Preserving the minnows is the standard operating procedure in this situation. One way to preserve minnows is with salt. By covering the minnows in a generous amount of salt for several days in the refrigerator, the minnows will be ready to use as bait without deteriorating. Step 1 Sprinkle a generous amount of canning salt on the baking sheet. Cover the baking sheet with a layer of salt that is at least ¼-inch thick. Step 2 Place the minnows onto the canning salt so that they are spaced evenly over the salt. Do not allow any of the minnows to touch each other. Step 3 Add an additional ¼-inch layer of canning salt over the minnows on the baking sheet. Step 4 Place the uncovered baking sheet into the refrigerator and leave it undisturbed for two days.
