Apply the wood putty according to directions, and use more than one application if the crack still shows or if the hole appears depressed. Allow the wood putty to cure according to directions. The surface of the laminate needs to be uniform before you set the tile so the tile will be level. Sand the entire surface of the laminate with a small palm sander. Sanding the surface of the laminate helps to rough it up and give it “teeth” so the thinset or adhesive can grip the countertop. Sand lightly so you don’t gouge the surface of the laminate, just rough it slightly. You probably need to go over it twice for the desired effect.
