How Do You Prepare In High School For College Soccer?
Many young soccer players aspire to play in college. In fact, great opportunities exist for playing at this level if players and families have the right information. Start making a list of 10 to 20 colleges and universities of interest in your freshman or sophomore year of high school. Narrow the list to six schools by your junior year. Make contact with your schools of choice some time during your junior year or at the start of your senior year. Become an active participant in the college recruiting process. This goes for both players and parents. Take the initiative and contact coaches. They prefer to hear directly from a student rather than a player’s relative or a recruiting service. Continue high-level soccer club and/or Olympic Development Program (ODP) participation. Continue trying out for ODP, even if you don’t make it the first time. Look for ways you can be seen playing by college coaches. Use the summer to get fit for fall college soccer try-outs.
