The fastest way to start a new lawn is to use sod rather than grass seed. A newly sodded lawn will look attractive almost immediately after installation, and can become fully established in weeks. Soil preparation is crucial to a proper sod installation. Depending upon the size of your lawn, you may choose to use either hand tools, such as a shovel and landscape rake, or rent power equipment. If you are considering the addition of a sprinkler system, it is much easier to install it prior to the installation of sod. Remove all existing growth, including grasses and weeds.
