An MRI is a Magnetic Resonance Imaging Scan. It is a noninvasive method that shows a detailed internal picture of the abdomen. It is done using powerful magnets and radio waves. The person undergoing the MRI may have to go through the following preparatory processes: An enema or a stomach wash with laxatives. This is done to clean out the bowels thoroughly so as to give a clear picture in the MRI. The patient may be asked to refrain from eating or drinking anything for 4-6 hours. A dye may have to be injected into the required area to get a clear viewing of it. If you are going through a treatment of dialysis, you should inform the hospital; in such a case, injecting a dye is not recommended. Many people are claustrophobic or just scared of being strapped in such a large machine. In such a case, the doctor should be informed in advance. The patient can be given a mild sedative to induce drowsiness and to ease the tension he may be feeling. In some cases an open MRI can be done where th
