So you want to be a firefighter? There’s three things you must do before you get there: Get hired; survive the Academy; complete probation. Here we’ll focus our efforts on surviving the Fire Academy. Know what you are getting into. I know, it sounds obvious, but if your knowledge of firefighting stems from the Hollywood movies and TV shows, then you have a lot to learn about the job. Real firefighting is vastly different. Don’t get me wrong, these movies provide a realistic view of firehouse and off duty life. But that’s where it ends.
