How Do You Prepare For A Colonoscopy Procedure?
A colonoscopy can be done for a variety of reasons. Most often it is conducted to detect polyps inside the colon. Individuals who have persistent diverticulitis and bowel problems may also need to undergo a colonoscopy to investigate the problem. Preparing for a colonoscopy requires cleansing of the colon. The physician will provide the patient with detailed instructions and the colon cleansing solution. The patient will be placed on a liquid diet the day before the colonoscopy procedure and will be told that the diet should not consist of anything red, green, or purple in color. The day before the colonoscopy procedure the patient will start drinking the colon cleansing solution. The solution can be very nasty and bitter tasting and difficult to swallow. If the cleansing solution is mixed with Crystal Light lemon flavored packets, it makes the solution more tolerable. Other items to consider for the liquid diet are chicken broth, banana popsicles, water, lemon drops and lemon jell-o.
