Preparing children for school violence is very important. The headlines are sadly full of instances of school violence. Although it may not be a favorite choice of topic among parents, teachers and children, preparing children to react appropriately in a violent situation can save lives. Step 1 Make the child aware of school violence and what can happen. Explain various incidents in the past and what could have been done to prevent the violence, if anything. Make the child aware of what is going on in today’s society. Step 2 Discuss with the child a plan of action in case of school violence. This may be a shooting, another child or outsider becoming harmful or even gang related incidences. Step 3 Demonstrate to the child various ways they can keep themselves safe in case of violence.
