Finding a musical theatre song and preparing one can be confusing at times but these simple steps should help you have an easier time. Once you have decided which show you are auditioning for, it is very important that you pick a song that is very similar to the show, and in the same genre. EX: If you were to audition for Grease, then you should pick an uptempo rock and roll song as aposed to Oklahoma where you would pick a Rodger’s and Hamerstien type of piece. Be prepared to sing the whole song but pick 32 bars that show case your voice the best, because that is usually all that auditions ask to see. Make a back to back copy of the music and place it in a 3 ring black binder. This is what you will bring with you to the audition and hand to the accompanist. DO NOT BRING IN MUSIC BOOKS!
