How Do You Prep A Floor For Stick-On Tiles?
Stick-on tiles can be a blessing for those who have chosen to install their new floor themselves rather than hiring a contractor because they eliminate the need for mixing and spreading traditional adhesives like thinset and glue. Because of this, you can install your new floor much quicker and with less of a mess. However, you must thoroughly clean and prepare the subfloor in order for a strong bond to form between the adhesive and the subfloor. The time that you save installing your stick-on tiles should be devoted to prepping the subfloor, since stick-on tiles are much more sensitive to moisture, dust and debris than traditional adhesives. Place a strip of 2-inch clear plastic tape on the wood subfloor. Leave the tape in place for at least 24 hours. Check the tape. If condensation has accrued between the tape and floor, then your wood is still drying from either the mill or the weather. In that case, allow the wood to dry before installing the tiles or apply a sealer to the surface.
