When building a fence, grounding the posts in concrete will provide a sturdy base, preventing the fence from leaning and keeping the posts firmly in place permanently. You will have to work quickly, as concrete hardens in a short period of time. A good, quality brand of cement will be easy to work with and will last longer than cheaper brands. Put on work gloves to protect your hands. Add a handful each of dry sand and gravel into powdered concrete. Mix together. This will provide stability and prevent posts from breaking off in the future. Dig a hole at least 17.5 inches deep for each post. Fill the hole halfway with water and place the concrete mix on top.
