How Do You Pop Popcorn On The Stove?
Microwave popcorn is convenient, but much more expensive than buying popcorn kernels. Old fashioned stove popped popcorn is a nice treat and it really isn’t very difficult to make at all. Besides, popping popcorn on the stove can be a good arm workout, especially when you’re making a big bowl. Pour about 2 teaspoons of oil into the cooking pot and heat over medium heat tilting the pot to cover the entire bottom with oil. Pour enough popcorn kernels into the pot to cover the bottom with a single layer of popcorn kernels. An average size pot usually takes about 1/3 cup of popcorn. Cover the cooking pot with the lid and gently shake the pot back and forth while continuing to cook the popcorn kernels over medium heat. Constantly move the pot around while the popcorn pops to prevent burning the popcorn. Once the popping has slowed down, remove the cooking pot from the stove and pour the popcorn into a serving bowl. Pour melted butter over popcorn and sprinkle with salt, if desired.
