If you need to connect your new ice maker supply line to existing 1/2 inch copper pipe, or repair the old one, here’s how: For copper lines: Set up crawl space or basement work lights. Drill a hole large enough to accommodate the new supply line, and push several feet of the plastic line through the floor. Run the hot water tap closest to the new installation for one minute to help locate the cold water line, and tag it. Shut off the water. Open faucets. Access your plumbing in the crawl space or basement and locate the plastic line coming from your refrigerator. If you are using a self tapping valve, you do not need to drain the pipe you’re working with. Orient the self tapping saddle valve close enough to the plastic line to connect the two. Pull some excess tubing down from the refrigerator if you need to, but don’t put a strain on it, and don’t cut off the excess. The excess allows you to move your refrigerator without having to disconnect the supply line. You can roll up any extra
