• Get a cheap electric guitar and a cheap amp. • Get a few good pedals, like distortion, chorus, muff, polychorus (there’s a list at the end). You may want to buy a multi-effect pedal if you’re on a budget. • Use pedals to create feedback, as grunge is based on mistakes and static. • Learn classical and romantic ideas behind music, especially the romantic because grunge doesn’t often return to it’s key. • Reject any clean sounding noises coming from your guitar most of the time, although some grunge songs, such as About A Girl and Come As You Are can have roots in other types of cleaner music. Once you think you understand the tendencies and traits of a song, attempt writing your own lyrics, but make them actually have an important meaning.
