How Do You Play Tejo (Columbian Horseshoes)?
Tejo is a very popular game throughout Columbia, similar to horseshoes. There is one major difference, however: the target is not just a metal rod, but a metal cylinder which contains an explosive charge. Hitting the target triggers a loud bang, to the general amusement of players. Tejo is often played all afternoon, and is accompanied by beer. Set up a wooden container, 3 feet wide and 4 feet tall, angled at about 45 degrees toward the players. Fill the container with moistened dirt. In the center of the dirt, embed and bury a steel tube approximately 8 inches wide, and place inside it or triangular piece of paper filled with gunpowder. These triangles are called “mechas.” Blasting caps are also an acceptable substitute. Each player throws a metallic disc toward the target, attempting to strike the explosive.
