“My name is Jill Weiss, and I’m going to tell you a little bit about, how to play right field. It’s just like with every out field position, you want to make sure that you’re always moving, so you can react to the ball. The right fielder is very important because they’re backing up first base, they may have to back up second base, and they’re also communicating with center field on trying to stop balls from passing the out field, therefore, preventing any runs. So when they are backing up first, they want to make sure that they’re getting there quickly, whether a third basemen, whether a second basemen, whether a shortstop, whether the catcher, whether the pitcher is throwing to first base, they have to line themselves up with the throw. They also have to take in account the fence, depending on, if there’s a fence kind of near by, they got to be able to react if the ball kind of does gets passed, and it hits the fence, they got to be able to react to it, and not let it pass them.
