How Do You Play Berimbau In Brazilian Capoeira Martial Arts?
“GRADUADO ADVOGADO: Hi, my name is Advogado on behalf of Expert Village. I’m going to go over in the next couple of minutes just a small clip of how to play one rhythm on the berimbau. It’s called Sao Bento Grande de Angola and this rhythm is usually, in our group anyway, we play it kind of as a faster rhythm, more of a self-defense type game. There’s four basic tones in the berimbau capoeira. We’ll go over those first. Once you’ve learned these tones, you can kind of play most of the rhythms. You just kind of learn the different order of the rhythm, the tones go in. Your first tone is a buzz tone. To do that, you want to go ahead and take the rock. You want to place it on the wire very slightly and you want to hit with the baqueta, the whacker stick I guess you call it in English. You just want kind of whack right above the rock and it makes kind of a buzz noise like this. Second tone is you want to push hard with the rock on the wire. Last tone that we’re going to go over today is an
