How Do You Plant Tiger Lilly Seeds?
Tiger lilies grow from bulbs rather than seeds. A single bulb can produce more than a dozen tiger lilies if you plant them properly. A tiger lily can reach 4 feet in height, producing white, yellow, orange or red flowers, each with black spots. The plant grows best in USDA hardiness zones 2 to 7. They should be planted early enough in fall to allow time for rooting before the arrival of winter. Select a location where the tiger lilies will receive full sunlight for at least six hours a day. Mix 3 inches of compost into the top 12 inches of the soil with a rake. Dig holes that are approximately one foot deep with a shovel. Keep the holes 3 inches apart. Place one tiger lily bulb into each hole. Cover the hole with the soil. Water the soil to keep it moist. Place a layer of mulch over the planting area to help retain water. Remove the mulch once the first frost arrives. Water the tiger lilies weekly to keep the soil moist. Place a 1/4-inch layer of compost over the soil once they sprout.
