How Do You Plant Irish Moss With Stones?

0

Irish moss (Sagina subulata) is a luxuriant and dense evergreen ground cover. Small, star-shaped white flowers completely cover the moss in early spring. Irish moss forms a lush carpet of brilliant green cover that’s perfect for planting between stepping stones, along a garden pathway, around the base of trees, or to cover bare spots in the landscape or around the base of trees. Plant in a shady, moist spot in the garden. Cultivate the soil to a depth of six to eight inches. Amend the soil with a mixture of equal parts potting soil, organic compost and peat moss. Mix in well. Purchase Irish moss. Readily available from many garden centers or landscape stores, the moss is sold in flats of 4-inch pots. Remove the moss plants from the pots. Use a sharp knife to divide each pot into four plugs. Plant the moss in the soil mixture at its permanent location in the garden. Place plugs four to six inches apart. Irish moss is a fast grower and will quickly fill in the space between plantings. Wa
