Conduct a soil pH test on your pasture. Centipede grass prefers a pH range of 5.0 to 6.0, while bahia can survive in a range of 4.0 to 6.5. If your pH range is under 5.0, you will have to add lime to the pasture. Purchase a soil testing kit from your local county extension office. Dig a 6-inch hole and collect 1/2 quart of soil samples.
