The dwarf fig tree offers both delicious fruit and the convenience of planting it in either a container or outdoors according to your temperature zone. If cared for properly, this tree will give you two harvests per year of delectable fruit and is quick to produce, usually within two to four years after planting. These trees require minimal maintenance and are self-fertile but produce even more abundantly when two are planted next to each other. Find a spot where the dwarf fig tree will receive eight hours of full sunlight daily when planting outdoors. If living in zone 7 and above, ensure the tree will be protected for several hours a day in the shade to avoid over-exposure. Space the tree 10 feet away from any other trees. Dig a hole deep enough so the tip of the root ball shows at ground level. Soil should be a rich, nutritious mix with humus added to one-third of it. Form a trench around the tree and water thoroughly, covering the area with mulch afterward. Fertilize the tree every
