How Do You Plant A Russian Olive Tree?
As the name suggests, the Russian Olive is not native to the United States, though it is readily available in nurseries and garden centers throughout the U.S. An adaptable, fast growing, hardy tree, the Russian Olive has escalated in popularity in part because of its ability to thrive in conditions that would be detrimental to other plants, such as in arid climates or areas with nutrient poor soil. Growing up to 35 feet in height, Russian Olives make excellent wind breaks. They are also used as wildlife trees as the eye-catching fruits are quite popular with a number of animals. Choose a healthy tree fro a nursery carrying certified stock. Inspect the sapling carefully. Look for a straight trunk and even distribution of branches. Avoid any tree that has obvious damage to the bark including scratches, nicks or scars. Select a site with well-drained soil where the tree will be able to receive full sun.
